A Worthy Endeavor

The space shuttle Endeavour's final flight ended Friday, September 21, when it landed at Los Angeles International Airport en route to its new life as an exhibit at the California Science Center. But without Caltech professors Christopher Brennen and Allan Acosta and alumnus Sheldon Rubin (ME, '56), the entire endeavor might not have been possible. "Hydrodynamics of Pumps" is Now in Japanese, Farsi, and Chinese Translation

Hydrodynamics of Pumps, a book written by Christopher E. Brennen, Richard L. and Dorothy M. Hayman Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Emeritus, which was originally published in 1994 by Oxford University Press and Concepts ETI has now been published in Japanese, Farsi, and Chinese translations. Professor Tsujimoto composed the Japanese translation which was published by Osaka University Press. Most recently Cambridge University Press concluded an agreement with Jiangsu University Press for the publication (in both hardback and paperback) of the translation by Dr. Pan Zhongyong of Jiangsu University.

Professor Brennen Elected to Fellow of ASME

Christopher E. Brennen, Richard L. and Dorothy M. Hayman Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Emeritus, has been elected to the grade of Fellow at ASME. The Fellow grade recognizes significant engineering achievements and contributions to the engineering profession. Professor Brennen is one of only 3068 Fellows out of 121,087 ASME members.

ME19 Ends With a Big Splash!

Christopher E. Brennen, Richard L. and Dorothy M. Hayman Professor of Mechanical Engineering, ends his ME19 class with a big splash! He has been a Caltech faculty member for more than 40 years and has published numerous papers and books in a wide variety of topics involving fluid mechanics. Professor Brennen will be retiring on April 1st, 2010.

Christopher Brennen Elected as a Fellow of the School of Engineering at The University of Tokyo

Hayman Professor of Mechanical Engineering, has been elected as a Fellow of the School of Engineering at The University of Tokyo in recognition of his contribution to the research and education of the school, as well as his outstanding accomplishments in research and education in the field of engineering.

Christopher Brennen Awarded ISROMAC Award

Christopher Brennen, the Richard L. and Dorothy M. Hayman Professor of Mechanical Engineering, delivered the plenary opening lecture at the Twelfth International Symposium on Transport Phenomena and Dynamics of Rotating Machinery in February. After, he was awarded the organization's ISROMAC Award in recognition of "his outstanding research contributions in the area of cavitation and hydrodynamics in rotating machinery."
