Alexandra Baumgart has been chosen to receive the 2025 Richard Bruce Chapman Memorial Award. The Richard B. Chapman Memorial Award is given to an EAS graduate student in hydrodynamics who has distinguished themself in research.
Alexandra Baumgart completed her graduate studies working with Guillaume Blanquart, Professor of Mechanical Engineering. Baumgart's doctoral research focused on numerical methods for detonations, developing methods to improve the numerical stability and reduce the computational cost associated with chemistry. This work will contribute to more efficient large-scale simulations of propulsion technology such as detonation-based engines. She is currently a computational physicist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
