The winners of the 2025 New Horizons Awards were announced at the end of the 2024-2025 academic year. The New Horizons Award is presented annually by the Division of Engineering and Applied Science to recognize individuals within EAS who actively contribute to our goal of fostering an engineering community where all members can thrive and reach their full potential.



Mars Arechavala, an undergraduate student in Mechanical Engineering, is recognized for heartfelt and proactive advocacy on behalf of fellow undergraduates, especially students coming to Caltech from underserved backgrounds.
Kevin Gauld, a graduate student in Electrical Engineering, is recognized for sustained efforts in science outreach that has engaged several hundred local K-12 students and for providing opportunities to Caltech students to increase their communication skills through outreach and engagement activities.
Susana Torres-Londono, a graduate student in Applied Physics, is recognized for leadership within the Black Scientists & Engineers of Caltech (BSEC) and active engagement and contributions to programming and mentoring that support members of the Caltech community.
